Upper Extremity Orthoses

Shoulder

A shoulder support is a brace designed to provide stabilization and relief for individuals with shoulder injuries or conditions such as rotator cuff tears, dislocations, post-surgical recovery, or stroke These orthoses help support the shoulder joint in a more functional position, reducing pain, promoting healing, and preventing further injury by limiting excessive movement. Typically made from lightweight, breathable fabric, shoulder braces are adjustable to ensure a secure and comfortable fit. They can be worn during daily activities or physical therapy to aid in recovery, improve posture, and restore function. Whether used for acute injuries or chronic conditions, shoulder support orthoses are essential tools for facilitating healing and regaining function in the upper limb

Elbow

An elbow brace is designed to stabilize, immobilize, and protect the elbow joint, providing relief from pain and promoting healing in conditions such as tennis elbow, golfer's elbow, strains, or post-surgical recovery. Functional braces are made from flexible materials like neoprene or fabric whereas immobilizing braces are made from metal and thermoplastic with joints for adjustability. The brace helps limit excessive movement, reducing strain on the tendons and ligaments around the elbow, and is often used during physical activities or for everyday use to prevent further injury. By offering compression and stability, an elbow brace aids in reducing pain, swelling, and promoting faster recovery.

Wrist hand

A wrist-hand orthosis (WHO) is a custom or prefabricated device designed to support, stabilize, and protect the wrist and hand. It is commonly used to manage conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome, arthritis, fractures, or post-surgical recovery. WHOs are also used to prevent contractures in conditions like cerebral palsy or stroke.  The WHO helps immobilize injuries of the wrist and hand while promoting healing, and reducing pain. Typically made from lightweight materials like plastic, foam, or neoprene, the orthosis is adjustable to ensure a comfortable and secure fit. By providing support and alignment, a wrist-hand orthosis helps improve hand function, reduce strain on the wrist, and prevent further injury or contractures.
